2003 Feb. The recordings for the SOI-project continued at the concert hall of Sibelius Academy's R-house. Several musicians attended these recordings. A sample melody, composed for this project by Harri Vuori, was played and recorded with every instrument, as was the tonal range of each instrument. Additionally, most instruments' "effect samples" were recorded, of which there will also be notated examples in the SOI-publication and MOVE's instrumentation table.

2003 Jan. The SOI-project's instrumentation table commissioned by MOVE, has been finished. The contents of this table includes partly the material assembled by the SOI-project. It describes the most common instruments used in the symphony orchestra, their individual tonal ranges and amplitude charts. The more accurate information can be found in PDF-documents which you can download and/or print. The instrumentation table is directed for music teachers, and everyone else actively involved with music, to be used as a tool for arranging and composing.

Dec. 2002 The new book, released in two parts, about contemporary composers and their relation to music is available now at the book shops. It is entitled Minä, säveltäjä 1 & 2 (Me, the composer 1 & 2). I was one of the authors on this one (in part 2), and I tried to explain the way I feel about art and composing. The exact title of the book two is: Minä, säveltäjä 2. Nykysäveltäjät kirjoittavat työstään. Ed. Juha Torvinen & Petri Tuovinen. Published by Summa Helsinki 2002.

Nov. 2002 The technical producer of SOI-project, Lasse Nissilä, has gotten a full-time research assignment from MOVE. Nissilä's work consists of research and realization of matters in conjunction with user interface and informational hierarchy. One of the principal goals of the SOI-website design has been easy and logical accessibility.

Nov. 2002 The recordings for the SOI-project have started at the concert hall of Sibelius Academy's R-house. Several musicians attended these recordings. A sample melody, composed for this project by Harri Vuori, was played and recorded with every instrument, as was the tonal range of each instrument. Additionally, most instruments' "effect samples(capabilities)" were recorded, of which there will also be notated examples in the publication. The recorded examples will mainly be used in the table of registers of instruments, which MOVE has initiated.

Dec. 2001 A Swedish-Finnish cultural fund has granted a donation for the orchestration/instrumentation-project. This donation will cover the travel expenses to Stockholm, where I will research the possibilities for Scandinavian collaboration in this project. The project is entitled SOI (Internet-based publication of instrumentation and orchestration).

Sept. 2001 I spent this summer on the countryside composing, and my work will continue throughout the autumn. The melodies for the song cycle are just about ready.

May 2001 I officially graduated as M.A. at the University of Helsinki. I received a scholarship for composing from Niilo Helander Fund. A song cycle based on the poetry of Helvi Hämäläinen will be composed.

Feb. 2001 At the local bookstore discount sale I found a book that consists of poems by Helvi Hämäläinen, entitled Vihreä virta (The green stream, WSOY 1996). I intend to compose a song cycle to be performed by Tuomas Katajala. He has repeatedly asked me to do this. It will be composed as soon as I find time for it.

Dec. 2000 The state music council has granted 20.000 FIM for the orchestration/instrumentation-project. Now I can continue my work within this project, which has been discontinued since January. My studies at the University of Helsinki have been completed.

April 2000 I have started an educational project which is going to be an internet-based publication and a book about instrumentation and orchestration. This idea was born when I attempted to re-arrange my disassembled notes - which I took at the numerous lectures I attended - into digital form. This got me thinking, "why don't I publish this collection?". This starting project has been presented to Tuomas Kantelinen, Kaija saariaho, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Eino-Juhani Rautavaara and Harri Vuori. The main goal in this project is to present a publication free of charge for its users, with combined recorded and notated musical excerpts.
